Characteristics:
Pines are one of the most common timbers in use today. With around 125 species they are grown in temperature regions. The resin from some species is a key source of turpentine.
Despite being a softwood, if treated well Pine will last a long time.
Uses:
Joinery, flooring, furniture, decking, sheds, cladding, veneers
Advantages:
- durable, long-lasting wood
- attractive knots and grain
- economical to purchase
- strong
Disadvantages:
- knots need to be treated with knotting solution to prevent seepage
- can yellow over time
