How To Oil A Wooden Table
Hello, today Libéron is going to show you how to protect a wooden table with Libéron Finishing Oil.
Oil finishes are great for tables and worktops because they are hardwearing and water, heat and food acid resistant. As oils soak into the wood itself, rather than sitting on the top of the wood like a varnish, the oil will slightly darken the natural colour of the wood, so bear that in mind.
If you wish to keep the existing colour of the wood, then use Libéron Kitchen & Bathroom Varnish. Firstly, if you haven’t already done so, is to prepare the wood correctly. To learn more about this important process, watch our wood preparation video.
The next step is to shake the tin of Finishing Oil very well to disperse the ingredients. Then pour the oil into the black cap provided and using a natural bristle brush or lint-free cotton cloth apply a very thin coat in the direction of the wood grain.
Allow the oil to soak into the wood for around 10 minutes and then wipe away the excess oil with a clean cotton cloth and allow it to dry. Each coat will require around five hours to dry. For a table or worktop in everyday use, three coats will be required. This will ensure you have a good level of protection against daily wear and tear.
Once the final coat has had 24 hours to dry fully you can lay your table and enjoy a well-earned dinner!
